- Supports all SGML entities of XML, HTML 4, MathML and ISO 8879.
- Dialog "Conversion Options" has been extended to allow selection of
entity sets used for the conversion.
- Character Map context menu has been extended to allow selection of
entity variants for a character, if available.
- Other new features
-
Explicit conversion operations to convert characters from the Hangul Jamo
block into precomposed compatibility Hangul Syllables and vice versa.
- Fixed bugs
-
On Windows 2000 and Windows XP the composition window of an IME (Input Method Editor
for Chinese, Japanese, Korean) was directly placed at the top left corner
of a UniPad document window, ignoring the current character position. This behaviour is a feature of
Windows 2000 and Windows XP trying to emulate IME level 3 behaviour
(IME level 3 allows the composition of characters inside the document window).
UniPad does not support IME level 3 yet. Instead
UniPad supports IME level 2 only (IME level 2 uses a separate composition window).
Therefore, now a separate composition window is displayed even on Windows 2000 and
Windows XP.
-
On some printers empty pages where printed (containing nothing except a
single line). This problem could have been reproduced and it has been fixed eventually.
-
The clipboard was not always properly closed by UniPad after
performing clipboard operations (cut, copy, paste). This did not cause
any problems. Nevertheless, this behaviour has been corrected.
- Other corrections
- Minor user interface corrections
- Romanian keyboard: replaced A caron by A breve
Version 1.01 (2002-11-04)
- Extended evaluation mode
In unregistered mode the document size limit of 1000 characters is activated
after a few minutes. That will allow evaluation of all features for
this period of time.
- Bug fixes
- Replace and search dialog: when pasting multi-line text into
the edit field, usually a scrollbar (i.e. up/down buttons)
appears next to the edit field. When the dialog was closed
and opened again, the scrollbar did not appear.
T-01323
- When saving an empty file on Windows 95/98/ME an
irritating error message appeared
("Value must be between 0 and 65535"). The file was saved
correctly but the hourglass mouse cursor did not change
to an arrow afterwards.
T-01324
Version 1.0a (2002-10-10)
- Bug fixes
- No space was assigned to space bar in keyboards Estonian and Romanian.
T-01321
- Index of help file was broken. T-01322
Version 1.0 (2002-09-28)
- Important: UniPad 1.0 is trialware
- The UniPad 1.0 licensing method is as follows: UniPad 1.0 runs

"Strip trailing spaces when newline typed" was activated
- Corrected Romanian keyboard
- Several minor glyph corrections
Version 0.98b (2002-04-23)
- Bug Fixes
-
Closing the dialog "Replace" produced an access violation,
causing a program or even system crash on Windows 95/98/ME; this bug
occurred only if the option "Prompt on replace" was activated.
-
Positioning the cursor in lines that were longer than 65536 characters
could lead to a crash under certain circumstances.
-
Long lines (ca. 6000 characters, depending on font style) were not
displayed properly on Windows 95/98/ME.
-
The maximum number of undo steps (dialog "Preferences")
was displayed with the system's thousands seperator if the number
had been changed using the up/down buttons; numbers >= 1000 were
not recognized correctly when the dialog was closed resulting in a
number of 0 undo steps.
- The dialog "File Properties" had a memory leak of 16 kB.
- The following SGML entities were not mapped to correct Unicode characters:
-
Dot, Tcedil, tcedil, epsis, epsiv, Scirc, scirc, lozf, epsi, ohm,
mldr, loz, phone, Lmidot, pound, Zcaron, zcaron, Sacute, squf, fnof
(has been removed, because it was mapped to "f with hook"
which is not adequate).

(Kana only)".
- Several minor glyph corrections.
- Minor GUI corrections.
- Added topic about program limitations (Reference/Limitations) to help file.
- Improved error message on low memory condition upon start.
Version 0.98a (2002-04-12)
- When selecting a user defined keyboard, the layout information was
not loaded from the corresponding .UKB files, resulting in an empty
and unusable keyboard window. This bug didn't occur when the user defined
keyboard was the default or global or or when it was automatically selected
by opening files via the file history (recent files).

- Several minor improvements
- U+0000 is now accepted as a valid character (in documents, keyboards, etc.).
- Optional backup creation upon save.
- Default extension .utx can be changed.
- Added global options regarding UTF7 encoding.
- Some conversion functions provide additional options.
- The keyboard state can be locked temporarily for easier key assignment.
- New conversion function: Decompose characters.
- New toolbar for all conversion functions.
- Added missing KangXi glyphs.
- Added some extra character decompositions for Vietnamese.
- Reduced the possible error situations / messages when loading a
file (mainly a result of allowing U+0000, non-characters and accepting
binary files).
- Added a special UniPad clipboard format for better clipboard support
of the UniPad native data format. Main advantage for now: U+0000 is
preserved. Selecting of the approbiate clipboard format is handled
automatically.
- Improved file loading by using less temporary buffer space. Important
in low memory situation and with big files.
- Pasting from Clipboard in Windows 95/98/ME: automatic conversion
from local codepage to Unicode will be performed.
- Some cosmetic user interface improvements.
- Other changes
- Removed Mac Ukrainian encoding (Mac Cyrillic should be used).
- Changed semantics of command line option -y.
- Bug fixes
- Non-standard document window size when calling UniPad with -n /
--newdoc switch.
- Line separator was not changed automatically from Unicode LS to
CR+LF when saving as UTF-8, UTF-7, SCSU, ASCII+UCN resulting in files
that could not be read by ASCII editors.
- Some printing problems have been reported (empty pages, not printing
at all, etc.). Not all of these problems could be reproduced. However,
it seems that the handling of printer driver settings in UniPad was
not as robust as it should be and led to unpredictable behaviour of
printer drivers. Handling and supply of printer driver parameters
have been redesigned. Error handling has been improved.
- When printing documents containing only a single line without a
line separator, the dialog showing progress didn't disappear and locked
the application.
- Fixed a small resource leak that was left after closing a document
window. However, it didn't seem to have any harmful effects, even
after opening and closing over 500 windows.
- Conversion of \u sequences: a \u sequence was not converted to
a Unicode character when a single backslash occured somewhere before
this sequence. That sequence was kept without conversion.
- When exporting to Shift-JIS, Unicode replacement character U+FFFD
was converted to a single byte with the value 80(hex). Same happened
with Copy As.
- Dead keys didn't work when pressing keys on virtual keyboard window
rather than pressing the real keys.
- Glyph corrections
- Fixed width variant only: Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms were messed
up (some duplicated glyphs, some missing glyphs, wrong code positions).
- Improved glyphs for Deseret.

acceleration effect, it is possible to browse through all planes in
a relatively short time.
- The Virtual Keyboard supports assignment of characters from planes 1 to 16.
- Private Use characters in Planes 15 and 16 are displayed with a
Private Use glyph.
- Character names are displayed in the Character Map window and Character
Info Bar.

Entity Sets ISOdia, ISOgrk1, ISOgrk2, ISOGrk3, ISOgrk4, ISOlat1, ISOlat2,
ISOnum, ISOpub, ISOtech. Currently available with "Convert to SGML
Entities" and "Convert from SGML Entities" menus.

- Command line option -n to start UniPad with a new document window.
- Glyph corrections
- U+2022 BULLET: changed shape from square to circle.
- U+200A HAIR SPACE: changed from zero width to 1 pixel width. U+200B
ZERO WIDTH SPACE: handled as regular space character now, although

changed slightly.
- Bug fixes
- Minor corrections regarding the user interface.
Version 0.95e (2001-07-28)
- Changed file I/O routines
- All previous versions of UniPad used memory mapped I/O for file
handling (this included Save, Load, Import, Export). It is suspected
that memory mapped I/O could sporadically cause corrupted files with
certain network file systems and certain operating system versions,
although this behaviour could not be reproduced. To prevent potential
problems, file I/O has been changed so that files are read and written
in a convential way.
Version 0.95d (2001-07-23)
- Bug fixes
- Display problem: hexadecimal glyphs for characters in Basic Multilingual
Plane were all displayed as [U+0000]. This bug was introduced in version
0.95c.
- When loading or importing files including Macintosh line separator
(i.e. CARRIAGE RETURN) every first character of each line was swallowed.
This bug was introduced in version 0.95b.
Version 0.95c (2001-06-30)

- U+200B ZERO-WIDTH SPACE (width is zero now)
- U+2004 THREE-PER-EM SPACE, U+2005 FOUR-PER-EM SPACE, U+2006 SIX-PER-EM
SPACE
- Font in CharMap window can be changed:
- automatic (same as current document)
- fixed pitch
- variable pitch
- Bug fixes
- Display problem: hexadecimal glyphs like [U+1034] were not displayed
properly for characters > U+FFFF. Arbitrary glyps were displayed
instead of the leftmost digit. Example: U-0002C50C was displayed as
[U+*50C].
- Removed option "Landscape / Portrait" in Print dialog, because
it didn't work at all. Will include complete Printer Setup in next
version.
Version 0.95b (2001-04-30)
- Maintenance Release
- Minor corrections in user interface
- Partial support for Macintosh line separator (import only)
Version 0.95a (never released)
Version 0.95 (2000-12-30)
- The font engine has been re-implemented. The UniPad font (UP.FON)
will not be used anymore. UP.FON is no longer part of the setup. The
new font engine was necessary because of certain display problems on
Windows 2000. All glyphs are now inside the UniPad executable UP.EXE
which is now completely self-sufficient.
- UniPad now supports the character planes 1 to 17 of the Unicode Standard
and ISO-10646 (plane 0 is the Basic Multilingual Plane). These planes
cover the code values from 10000(hex) to 10FFFF(hex).
- Normally UniPad strips a BOM when loading a file. This behaviour
can be turned off now. The BOM can be used with all formats now.
- Glyphs for Hiragana and Katakana have been added.
Version 0.94 (2000-07-31)

- Caret shape was not saved in registry
- Corrected Windows CP-1258 (Vietnamese) conversion table
- Some glyph corrections
Version 0.93c (2000-04-05)
- Fixed bugs:
- UTF-8 marker was always written, even when disabled in File Properties
dialog.
- UTF-8 marker was written by default when saving new documents.
- UTF-8 detection did not work with one-line documents.
- File Properties dialog: OK was disabled when no line separator
was choosen. This was a problem especially with one-line documents
(that obviously don't have line separators).
- Files that were loaded using the file history had the wrong format
sometimes, because the original format was used in the history.
This was a problem, when the file format was changed outside UniPad.
To avoid any mis- interpretations, the history uses auto-detection
now.
- Files were not marked as modified after import.
- Edit/Convert/Combine Character Pairs: some characters have been
combined incorrectly:
- U+0020 + U+0301 ==> U+0384 (corrected: U+00B4)
- U+0020 + U+0313 ==> U+1FBF (corrected: U+1FBD)
- Unipad font up.fon dissappeared sometimes (see the FAQ for a
description of that problem). We made an attempt to solve the problem
and we hope that it works.
- The setup programm reported negative available disk space for
drives greater than 2GB.
- Swedish keyboard layout: SHIFT + LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH DIAERESIS
produced wrong character.
- Correction of glyphs from the Letterlike Symbols block:
- U+2102 DOUBLE-STRUCK CAPITAL C
- U+2107 EULER CONSTANT
- U+2108 SCRUPLE
- U+210A SCRIPT SMALL G

- Dragging the vertical scrollbar thumb in the document window didn't
work correctly with large documents.
- Surrogate characters weren't converted correctly into UCS-4 values
(and vice-versa).
- On Windows 95/98 Unicode text in the clipboard was not automatically
converted into the local codepage.
- Improved UTF-8 decoder
- All non-conformant sequences are handled correctly (i.e. produce
a REPLACEMENT CHARACTER).
- The byte order mark (BOM) can now be used with UTF-8 as a signature.
- Overlong sequences can either be tolerated or rejected.
- Improved general data handling
- Non-character codes U+FFFE and U+FFFF are allowed in documents
now. They can either be tolerated or rejected.
- The NUL character U+0000 can either be dropped from the document
or replaced with the REPLACEMENT CHARACTER.
- Glyph corrections
- _All_ glyphs of the fixed width font are now 10 pixels wide.
- U+2611 and U+2612 (glyphs were swapped).
Version 0.93 (1999-09-26)
